Billy has been with the team since the start of season 05/06 and started off as a defender.About a third of the way through last season we had to put him in goal due to blisters caused by his new boots. He managed to keep a clean sheet for that game and has remained in this position for the rest of the season. When Billy was placed in goal and the team knew that he was capable of playing well they seemed to grow in confidence. He now attends a training session every week with 2 FA qualified goalkeeper coaches and seems to enjoy playing in this position.I hope he carries on improving as much as last season as this is hard position to fill for most teams and with the defenders that we have it forms a good foundation for the team to carry on with the success of last season..
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
